Punk Friends

Yay! We like these people and what they do.

Here are some emails from people who have read the book that capture why we wrote the damned thing in the first place:

“I found out today, I was in a local book store and was looking at a marketing book and thinking this is filled with shit! And that’s the time I started to think, maybe I’m the only one that thinks this way. Really truthful to my self and others about my opinion and thoughts, I really know who I am but didn’t think I had a label. In my search I found this book ‘Punk Marketing’ after reading the first ten pages I found that I’m a ‘Punk’ I read the whole book cover to cover in about 30mins (right there in the book store). I could of stopped there, but didn’t, I removed the three copies from the shelf. Dude I was stoked!

“So I’m walking out of a Minneapolis airport bookstore last weekend (after I begrudgingly bought yet another stupid paperback to keep me from screaming obscenities like a crazy person at the window to the wintery weather that had me grounded for SEVEN hours) when I saw your book. I picked it up. Randomly opened to a section and read about three paragraphs when two words came to mind: right on.

“Despite working in the field (or possibly BECAUSE of it), I’m rarely instantly interested in or affected by books on better marketing practices or thinking better/more creatively/blah blah blah. The only one that has truly stuck with me since I started as a writer not quite 10 years ago is Luke Sullivan’s Hey Whipple, Squeeze This. Any time I need a little inspiration or a good laugh, I pick it up. I gotta say…your book is just as engaging, also written in a very honest, funny, entertaining voice — but yours also speaks to so many things that have felt wrong with the direction we’ve headed at previous agencies doing the same old same old. I connect with many of the thoughts, and I believe many more Darren Stevens wanna-be’s of the world my age and younger will as well. Actually, for me I think it was Thirty-Something…but whatever.

“I’ve recently accepted a position as CD at a startup agency because, yes, apparently the world needs another one, and in my very first act of “I’m in charge now!!!” (as I twirled my imaginary handlebar mustache and ordered someone to bring me something fruity to drink) I ordered 3 more copies of your book for the small staff here to read, mark-up, leave their coffee mugs on, etc. Even if just a fraction sinks in, I believe it’ll help make a difference in how we approach concepting, creating and implementing the work for our clients.

“It might even register enough royalties to buy you guys a decent mixer or two. Cheers on me.

Viva la Punk,

Kevin”

So, thanks Kevin, we appreciate your sentiments. The name of the agency where Kevin has just started work is Frieght Train and we’re sure that with people like Kevin there they’ve got to be pretty good, so if you are a marketing director in need of some Punk Marketing in Milwaukee, check them out.
